Volunteer at the Experience!

The JCC Maccabi Experience is not an effort of any one group, organization, or program.  The JCC Maccabi Experience is a celebration of our entire community, coming together to strengthen our identity, engage volunteers of all ages, and build a foundation for future leadership.

The JCC Maccabi Games®, ArtsFest®, and Access® in San Diego will require the time and help of more than 1,500 volunteers. From host families to event operations – and everything in between – there are opportunities to fit your interest, talent and schedule. Whether you volunteer during the week of, or in a role leading up to the event, the time is now to raise your hand.

Volunteers must be 18-years-old or older as of July 28, 2020 for daytime shifts and 21-years-old or older to volunteer for evening events. Volunteers do not have to be Jewish.

Volunteer FAQs

What if I am interested in volunteering, but I don’t know my schedule yet?
No worries! If you do not yet know your schedule, the best thing to do is to complete our Maccabi Interest Form and we will get back to you.

Is it important that I know a lot about sports/arts to volunteer or are there non-sports/arts volunteer positions?
No, sports and arts are only two of many different focuses of the Experience. Volunteer opportunities will range in multiple areas beyond sports/arts such as transportation, food, and evening events.

I plan to volunteer, but do you offer child care?
No. We will not have child care available; however, we can work around your schedule when determining your shifts.

Do I need to be a member of the JCC to volunteer?
No. The entire community is invited to take part in the Games, ArtsFest, & Access as a volunteer.

If my teen is participating, can I volunteer during that time?
Yes you can volunteer. However you may want to be aware of your teen’s schedule so you can plan accordingly to have an equal balance of volunteer shifts and availability to support him or her at their specific events.

I am available on a limited basis, perhaps only a few hours or only one day during the Games, ArtsFest & Access, is that ok?
Yes. We will need many volunteers and any availability is appreciated.

What do volunteers need to wear?
We will provide you with a complimentary volunteer t-shirt which should be worn whenever you are working a volunteer shift.

Will I be able to drive to the venue where I am working?
Yes. Parking should be available at all venues, Volunteers will be provided with a volunteer parking pass that will grant you access to guaranteed parking on site.

If I am not available during the week of the Games, ArtsFest & Access, can I still help?
Absolutely! We are always looking for volunteers to assist in the planning of the Games, ArtsFest & Access.

I have a lot more questions. How do I get the answers?
If you have additional questions, please take the time to fill out our Maccabi Interest Form. There is a specific place for questions regarding the Experience. After you submit this form, a member from our team will be in touch to best answer your questions.

Security FAQs

Who is responsible and involved in providing security for the Games, ArtsFest & Access?
The host community works closely with a wide variety of local, state and federal agencies to determine the security needs for the Games, ArtsFest & Access.

What are credentials and why are they needed?
Credentials are visible identification badges for athletes, artists, and coaches to help the host’s security team determine who should be admitted into venues, and to keep venues secure. Credentials also provide the participants’ medical information, delegation head, and parental contact information on the back. If credentials are lost, replacement credentials are available at Maccabi Central. Spectators are also required to obtain a spectator pass which permits them entry into Games, Artsfest & Access venues and Opening Ceremony only.

Will there be security at all venues?
Yes. Events will be held at a number of sites in and around the JCC in addition to opening and closing ceremonies and evening events. There will be security personnel to assure that participants get to and from the various venues and events in a timely and safe manner.
